[Anonymous Donors] Achievement Scholarship

Established by anonymous donors to be awarded to students of high potential for success in their careers.  Those eligible must be Holmes County residents attending West Holmes pursuing the fields of teaching, engineering, science, nursing, or selected pre-med programs. Award amounts vary; renewable.

 



Baserman-Irving Family Scholarship

Established by Mark and Jane Baserman to assist eligible students attending classes at either Wayne College Holmes Campus in Millersburg or The University of Akron | Wayne College in Orrville. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 



Jennifer Bird-Duff Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Jennifer, a former West Holmes student athlete. Awarded to a West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics and/or other extracurricular and service activities.  1 award of $1,000; Renewable.

 

Harold (H.T.) & Louise Blum Scholarship

Established in 2008 by their daughter, Beverly B. Schuler, to assist Holmes County residents having financial need.  Preference will be given to a student exhibiting aptitude and creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership skills for becoming an effective contributor in his or her field of study and to society. Award amounts vary; Renewable.



Joe & Frieda Bock Scholarship

Awarded to a West Holmes High School graduate pursuing a career in nursing. Established by John Bock, M.D. in honor of his parents, Joe and Frieda Bock. Award amounts vary; Renewable.





Ami Breitenbucher Memorial Nursing Scholarship

In memory of Ami, a former West Holmes High School student. Awarded to a West Holmes graduating senior or past graduate pursuing a career in nursing.  1 award of $500; Renewable.

 



Cary Scholarship

In honor of Richard and Virginia Cary. Applicants must be Holmes County residents. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 

Ralph B. & Alta M. Dickersheet Scholarship

Applicants must be majoring in the fields of agriculture, home economics or business. May be a student in any college or university. Must be a Holmes County high school graduate. Renewable.

 

 

Herbert and Corrinne Drushell Scholarship

Awarded to graduating seniors or adult students in the West Holmes school district pursuing the arts, which could include Literature, Drama, Music, Graphic Arts, Art, and Architecture. The scholarship was established by the daughter and grandchildren of Herbert and Corrinne. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 


Donald C. Egger Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2006 by Elaine Egger Hand to honor her father and to assist Holmes County residents having financial need as they pursue their higher education goals. Those eligible for this scholarship must be Holmes County residents pursuing the field of teaching. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 


French Ridge Title Company Scholarship

Established by attorney Laurel J. Schmid and awarded to a female West Holmes High School graduate pursuing a Bachelor's Degree at The University of Akron's Wayne College or Wayne College Holmes Campus. Student must demonstrate financial need. 1 award of $500; Renewable

 



Aimee Frenette-Rickly Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Aimee, a former West Holmes High School student. Awarded to a female West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics (preferably softball or volleyball). Award amounts vary; renewable.

 



Robert and Elsie Galley Educational Scholarship

Awarded to Holmes County students majoring in agriculture, horticulture, or ag-related programs. If no eligible candidates are found within these fields, selection will be based on the HCEF criteria. Award amounts vary; renewable.

 



Melanie A. Gehm Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Melanie, a former West Holmes High School student. Awarded to West Holmes graduating senior. Award amounts vary; renewable.

 

 



Graven Family Nursing Scholarship

Created by Richard and Jane Graven.  Awarded to Holmes County students pursuing a career in nursing. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 

Paul & Esther Haudenschild Memorial Music Scholarship

To honor his parents and their love of music, George and Shirley Haudenschild have created this scholarship which is to be awarded to a graduating senior of West Holmes, Hiland, Loudonville, or Waynedale High School with Holmes County residency and who will be pursuing a degree in music or has been involved in high school music programs. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 

Carol Hawkins Maurer Nursing Scholarship

Established in 2013 by the family and friends of the late Carol Hawkins Maurer to honor Carol who devoted nearly 40 years of her life to nursing. Awarded to Holmes County residents with demonstrated financial need and academic merit who are pursuing a career in the nursing field. Preference given to those students attending Ashland University, her alma mater. One award of $1,000 annually; Renewable.

 



Heinbuch Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2013 by the estate of John and Ruth Heinbuch to assist Holmes County residents having financial need as they pursue their higher education goals.  Those eligible for this scholarship include Holmes County residents with demonstrated financial need and who are graduating seniors of West Holmes High School.  Award amounts very; Renewable.

 

 


Fred & Ollie Hoffman Scholarship

Created in 2008 by Donald and Gretchen Waltman in honor of Gretchen's parents. This scholarship will assist Holmes County residents who will be pursuing a degree in pharmacy or education, or attending Ohio Northern University.  Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 


Holmes County Education Foundation Scholarship

Awarded primarily on the basis of financial need.  Academic promise and other non-economic criteria also considered.  Preference given to Holmes County, Ohio residents.  May pursue any area of study and attend any accredited institution.  Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 



Jennifer M. Jones Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Jennifer, a former West Holmes High School student. Awarded to female West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 

Key Foundation Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2008 by the Key Foundation, funded by KeyCorp.  This award assists Holmes County residents demonstrating financial need as they pursue the fields of business or finance. 1 award of $500; Renewable.


Killbuck Area Scholarship

In honor of the Virgil & Ruth Shreiner family. The Killbuck Area Scholarship is need-based and will be awarded to a graduating high school senior pursuing post-secondary education that has attended either Killbuck Elementary School or Clark Elementary School. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

Thomas Layman Memorial Scholarship

Established by a major gift from the estate of Thomas Layman to assist Holmes County residents demonstrating financial need and pursuing higher education in liberal arts including, but not limited to, literature, languages, philosophy, history, mathematics and science.  Award amounts vary; Renewable.  



Helen Logsdon Scholarship

Awarded to Holmes County students attending The Ohio State University or any of its branches. Preference given to graduating high school seniors with strong academics, involvement in student activities, and work experience. Award amount varies. See a guidance counselor for the OSU application. February 1st deadline. Note: Those who apply for this scholarship must also apply with the Holmes County Education Foundation scholarship application.

 


Master's Service Scholarship

Created by an anonymous donor, to be awarded to Holmes County, Ohio residents attending a Christian college such as Cedarville University, Liberty University, Moody Bible Institute, Mt. Vernon Nazarene University or Taylor University, and/or pursuing the fields of ministry, music, music therapy, or pharmacy.  Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 



Warren McCulloch Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Warren, an avid horseback rider and well-respected businessman.  Endowed by Reins of Hope, Therapeutic Riding Program, to be awarded to Holmes County students with financial need who are pursuing further education in an agricultural or equine-related field.  Award amounts vary; Renewable.


 



McNutt Scholarship

Created by Richard & Betty McNutt.  Applicants must be Holmes County residents demonstrating financial need. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 


Millersburg Rotary Club Scholarship

Those eligible for this scholarship must be a graduate of a Holmes County high school, or resident of Holmes County with a high school diploma or GED certificate and pursuing further education.  Preference will be given to those demonstrating financial need.  Applicants must have ranked in the top half of their graduating class and have a good record of behavior and community service involvement.  Award amounts vary; Renewable.

                    

 

Patricia M. Morganti Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Patricia, a former West Holmes High School English teacher and yearbook advisor. Awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors. 1 award of $500.00; Renewable.

 

 


Keith Nowels Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Keith, a former West Holmes High School vocational agriculture teacher. Awarded to a Holmes County graduating senior majoring in agriculture, an agricultural related program, or who has completed four years of high school Agricultural Education (FFA). 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 


William H. Patten III Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Bill, former owner of Patten Drilling, Inc. Awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors majoring in education and/or business. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 

Dr. Owen & Mildred Patterson Scholarship

Established in 2006 by the family and friends of Owen and Mildred in memory of Dr. Owen Patterson, a former Holmes County physician. Those eligible for this scholarship must be Holmes County residents pursuing advanced education and training. 1 award of $500; Renewable.

 

 

Raymond J. and Louella F. Patterson Scholarship for Teachers

The late Betty Lauber and her husband, Thomas, established this scholarship fund to memorialize Betty's parents, Raymond J. and Louella F. Patterson. The purpose of this program is to enhance the quality of education by helping teachers receive advanced training and develop additional skills that will improve their ability to work with students in the classroom. Note: separate application is necessary.  Please see "Scholarship & Grant seekers --> "Scholarship info and application" for more info.

Robert and Della Ramseyer Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2013 by the children of the late couple and is being administered by the Holmes County Education Foundation (HCEF). It is awarded to support further education of local students in the fields of medicine and agricultural sciences; Renewable.

 



Rodhe Family Scholarship

Awarded to Holmes County students with demonstrated financial need pursuing a degree in business or music. Renewable.

 

 



Sauerbrey Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to graduating high school seniors, in memory of Paul Sauerbrey, a former Killbuck Elementary School teacher. Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 

 


John W. and Geneva Schuler Scholarship

Awarded to West Holmes High School graduating seniors attending a technical, 2-year or 4-year school. Award is based on financial need and academic potential. Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 

 


Judson & Beverly Schuler Scholarship

Awarded to Holmes County residents pursuing higher education.  Preference will be given to those pursuing the fields of law, licensed practical nursing, or health-related fields. Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 

Blair Slutz Memorial Education Scholarship

Established in 2006 by the family and friends of the late Blair Slutz to honor Blair's commitment to students and their pursuit of education. The scholarship will provide financial assistance to graduating seniors from Hiland, Waynedale or West Holmes High School with Holmes County residency that are pursuing the field of education at a higher institution. Blair's thirty year career in education included teaching, coaching, and administration.  1 award, $500; Renewable.

 


R. Dean & Jean A. Smith Scholarship

Designated for Amish students who are residents of Holmes County and who are pursuing further education beyond the 8th grade.  Established in 2008 by the Smith Family.  Awards will be presented annually and are limited to tuition and student fees.  1 award, $500; renewable.

 


Darb Snyder Educational Scholarship

In memory of John S. Snyder, a former Holmes County teacher and county school board member. Applicants must be West Holmes graduating seniors.  Award amounts vary; renewable.

 


Roy & Dorothy Stallman Memorial Scholarship

Established by Guy Roy and Joanne Stallman to honor his mother and father, Roy & Dorothy Stallman. Preference will be given to those pursuing a degree in the education field. 1 award of $500; renewable. 

 



Marcia L. Stutzman Memorial Scholarship

Established by collective donations from the staff at Rea & Associates and a gift from the Rea Foundation.  Awarded to a West Holmes graduating high school senior demonstrating financial need and majoring in the fields of accounting, finance or business administration.  Award amounts vary; renewable.

 



Maxine Waltman Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be graduate students. Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 

 



Don & Oneta "Grandma" Way Memorial Scholarship

Established by a major gift from the estate of Oneta Way.  Awarded to Holmes County students demonstrating financial need and majoring in either education or business. Award amounts vary; Renewable.

 

 

Weber Girls Scholarship

Created in memory of Chris Weber and Doris Y. Weber with a pledge from the Melvin McClure American Legion Post 551 in Holmesville.  Awarded to graduating seniors of West Holmes High School or Waynedale High School, a child or grandchild of a veteran, and pursuing post-secondary educational goals.  1 award, $500; renewable.




Helen R. Youngs Music Scholarship

Awarded to Hiland/West Holmes graduating seniors majoring in music. Award amounts vary; Renewable.

Francis Brundige Scholarship Must be a student at The Ohio State University or its branches. There is no restriction as to the area of your major. Must be a Holmes County resident. 1 award; amounts vary. Non-renewable.

Purdy Memorial Scholarship In memory of Sydney J. and Georgia M. Purdy, a former West Holmes High School math teacher. Must be a West Holmes graduating senior. Award amounts vary; Non-renewable.
