2007 Holmes County Education Foundation
Scholarship Recipients Selected
The Holmes County Education Foundation (HCEF) has selected the following students to receive various scholarships. The scholarship, a brief description, and the recipients are listed below.
The Donald C. Egger Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing higher education in the field of teaching. The first recipient of this award is Robert Vanderveer.
The French Ridge Title Company Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes High School graduate pursuing a Bachelor's Degree at The University of Akron's Wayne College or its Holmes County Higher Education Center. This year's recipient is Jessie Patterson.
The Aimee Frenette-Rickly Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a female West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics (preferably softball or volleyball). Two recipients were chosen this year. They are Brooke Akins and Kati Vaughn.
The Robert and Elsie Galley Educational Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students majoring in agriculture, horticulture, or another ag-related program. This year's recipients are Amber Britton, Andrew House, Thomas Kinser III, Kyle Orr, Matthew Raber, Joseph Ramirez, and Elizabeth Skolmutch.
The Melanie A. Gehm Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes graduating senior. This year's recipient is Bess Proper.
The Graven Family Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County student pursuing a career in nursing. This year's recipient is Britney Sheppard.
The Paul & Esther Haudenschild Memorial Music Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of West Holmes, Hiland, Loudonville, or Waynedale High School who will be pursuing a degree in music or has been involved in high school music programs. This year's recipient is Joshua Howey.
The Holmes County Historical Society Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing higher education in the field of history or related fields. The first recipient to receive this is Magen Schlegel.
The Jennifer M. Jones Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a female West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics. This year's recipient is Markie McDowell.
The Killbuck Area Scholarship is awarded to students who have attended Killbuck or Clark elementary schools. This year's recipient is Afton Randolph.
The Helen Logsdon Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students attending the Ohio State University or any of its branches, with a preference given to high school seniors with strong academics, involvement in student activities, and work experience. This year's recipients are Bryce Conway and Weston Conway.
The McNutt Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County student, and is based on financial need. This year's recipient is Lance Swartzentruber.
The Patricia M. Morganti Memorial Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors. This year's recipients are Sean Boley and Bess Proper.
The William H. Patten III Memorial Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors pursuing business and/or education-related fields. This year's recipient is Robert Vanderveer.
The Dr. Owen & Mildred Patterson Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County resident pursuing higher education. The first recipient of this award is Lindsey Beckett.
The Raymond & Louella Patterson Scholarship for Existing Teachers is awarded to a Holmes County teacher who is wishing to pursue a Master's degree. This year's recipients are Jerrica Lowe and Rachel Miller.
The Purdy Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors. Recipients are as follows: Brock Baker, Amber Britton, Julie Chmielowiec, Jalaina Hershberger, Shawn Johnson, Morgan McDowell, Frank Noble, Jr., Rachel Patterson, Lillian Schmid.*
The Paul Sauerbrey Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors. This year's recipients are: Cory Baker, Lindsey Beckett, Brittany Bowles, Sarah Hofstetter, Zaccary Patterson, Krystie Proper, Amy Stankiewicz, Zachary Stivers, and Courtney Yoder.
The John W. and Geneva Schuler Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors, and is based on financial need and academic potential. This year's recipients are Sean Boley, Emily Duncan, and Tessa Wolff.
The Blair Slutz Memorial Education Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors from Hiland, Waynedale, or West Holmes High School with Holmes County residency pursuing the field of education. The first recipient of this award is Jenna Baker.
The Darb Snyder Educational Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors. This year's recipient is Kane Minnich.
The Kimberly A. Stalnaker Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Weaver Leather Goods Inc. This year's recipients are Briana Allison and Megan Kelling.*
The Maxine Waltman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student. This year's recipient is Virginia Oliver, who is pursuing Speech and Language at The University of Akron.
The Helen R. Youngs Music Scholarship is awarded to Hiland and/or West Holmes graduating seniors majoring in music. This year's recipient is Stephanie Holcomb from West Holmes.
The Holmes County Education Foundation Scholarship is awarded on the basis of need, academic promise, and other non-economic criteria. Recipients are as follows:

The total amount in new Holmes County Education Foundation scholarship awards given this year is $159,900** for the 2007-2008 academic year, and approximately $242,000 is available to provide renewing scholarship recipients. Award amounts vary according to need and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year will be available on the Foundation's website (www.hcef.net) beginning January 2, 2008.
